Eighth Grade Niagara Sail

commodoreperry

As an ongoing lesson about the War of 1812 and The Battle of Lake Erie, on September 25, 2012 the Eighth Graders at Holy Family School went onboard the Flagship Niagara for a day sail.  On board, the students learned how to tie knots, steer the ship, set the sails, and listened to tales about the ship and the battle.  It was a great adventure for all.

We here at Holy Family School would like to thank Dr. Guelcher for his kindness in sponsoring our students for this once in a lifetime experience!!!

Native American Longhouses

Grade 7 is studying Native American history and the French and Indian War in Mr. Rexford’s Social Studies class.  The students worked on creating models of Eastern Woodland Indian Longhouses.
These structures were built by Native Americans in various parts of North America.  They were around 100 ft. in length and about 20 ft. wide.

Statue of Liberty Program

The 3rd and 4th graders performed for the “THANK YOU TEA”  For Our Volunteers on February 2.  They gave a history of the Statue of Liberty and had some interesting facts to share about her.  They dressed in costume to portray the many immigrants who saw the statue as they came to America.
